Holcim's Siggenthal works in Switzerland has restarted its cement production with an activated carbon filter after the equipment was badly damaged in a fire in February. The International Trade Administration Commission (Itac) is investigating claims that cement from Pakistan is allegedly being dumped in the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu). Akkord has announced the successful completion of Phase 2 of its Gazakh Cement plant with the participation of the International Bank of Azerbaijan. Shree Cement has entered into an agreement to buy Jaiprakash Associates 1.5Mta cement grinding unit in the Panipat district of Haryana state in north India. The feasibility study for a new cement plant in Bhutan has been completed, marking the first such proposal to receive the go-ahead in the Zhemgang district. Vietnam: double-digit uptake in domestic sales

Vietnam producers sold 4.42Mt of cement to the domestic market in July, up 12 per cent from the previous month and 14 per cent from the same period a year ago, the Vietnam Cement Association said. Exports totalled 1.15Mt, comprising 363,603t of cement and 754,962t of clinker – up 31 and nine per cent MoM, respectively. Venezuela government to centralise cement plant administration

The Venezuelan government is currently looking at plans to unify the administration of the cement works owned by Corporación Socialista del Cemento (CSC). At present, while the cement works are subsidiaries of the CSC, they each have their own administration. CSC includes Venezolana de Cementos, Industria Venezolana de Cementos, Fábrica Nacional de Cementos and Cemento Andino.
