Najran launches waste heat recovery operations

Saudi-based producer Najran Cement said launched operations of its waste heat recovery project yesterday. The company successfully completed the performance guarantee tests stated in its contract with Sinoma of China, according to local press reports.

Colombian market grows 14.7% in May

Dispatches and output of cement in Colombia rose by 14.7 and 15.3 per cent, respectively in May, according to domestic statistics office, Dane. May deliveries reached 1.034Mt while production rose to 1.071Mt. PCL sees progress with branded product

Pacific Cement Limited (PCL), formerly Fiji Cement Industries, has reported positive progress with its branded cement following an increase in demand for supplies from distributors. Dangote’s Cameroon plant scheduled for August launch

Azerbaijan cement output increases 40% YoY

In the first five months of the year, Azerbaijan produced 1.1Mt of cement, a 40 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2013. The rise in domestic output has been attributed to the entry of new players in the local market and declining imports. Imports in the first five months of the year amounted to US$50m compared to US$61.5m, a drop of 19 per cent YoY. Going forward, the dependence of imports is expected to fall by 20 per cent in 2014-2015, according to industry sources.

Brazilian monthly cement sales slip

Preliminary industry data and market estimates indicate that cement sales in the Brazilian domestic market in May 2014 reached 5.932Mt, down 0.7 per cent YoY, latest data from SNIC shows. Sales for the period January-May 2014 reached 28.8Mt. Compared to the same period of 2013, showed growth of 2.8 per cent. Cumulative sales in the last 12 months (June 2013 – May 2014) reached 70.7Mt, an increase of 3.1 per cent over the previous period (June 2012 - May 2013).

China Resources sales exceed guidance

China Resources Cement said its cement and clinker sales prices have exceeded expectations this year, meaning that first half profit "is expected to be significantly increased as compared with the corresponding period in 2013," the company says.  "The strong cement price in off season (2Q14) is suggesting better and demand balance in southern China," says Guotai Junan Securities. "We believe cement price might pick up in 4Q14 and recent sell-off makes CR Cement more attractive."

RAM Ratings reaffirms Lafarge Malaysia rating
