Improving demand outlook for southern India

Cement demand in southern India is expected to witness stronger rates of growth in the current fiscal led by infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh, a new report has forecast. Belgorodskiy Cement monthly output increases 6% YoY

Belgorodskiy Cement, a member of Russia’s Eurocement group, produced 155,439t of cement, six per cent more than the same month of 2013. The company witnessed increased demand for high-quality PC-500-D0-N cement during April 2014. A total of 27,325t of this cement type was produced, 15,077t more than during the comparative period in the year before.

Venezuela: Cemento Andino output reaches 283,308t

Venezuela’s Cemento Andino produced 283,308t of cement between January and mid-June. The output was delivered to serve the Trujillo, Mérida, Barinas, Portuguesa, Lara and Zulia markets, according to Oswaldo Zerpa, Andino’s general manager. The company is currently building a second production line which will see its capacity increase to 2.1Mta.

Cemex invests in Dominican Republic operations

Cemex is carrying out investments DOP989m (US$22.75m) worth of investments in the Dominican Republic to improve energy efficiency as well as enhance bagging and distribution capabilities. Lafarge Zimbabwe investigating locations for US$250m cement works

Lafarge Zimbabwe is currently looking for a suitable location for a new US$250m cement plant in the country. Peru: cement dispatches edge ahead

Between January and May 2014, Peru’s cement market expanded by 0.51 per cent YoY to 4,129,906t, according to the latest figures from the domestic cement association, Asocem. Production rose by 0.95 per cent YoY to 4,231,221t in the first five months of the year, from 4,191,295Mt in the same period a year ago. Exports jumped from 81,356t to 95,716t, up 17.65 per cent during Jan-May.

HeidelbergCement to sell building materials business

German cement maker HeidelbergCement will dispose of its bricks and building materials business, and has already contacted several banks about the deal, the Financial Times reported. The paper advised that HeidelbergCement's CEO, Bernd Scheifele, had been planning on conducting the sale for a long time. The division is expected to be sold for a sum of between US$1.5bn-2bn (EUR1.1-1.5bn). In the last business year, the unit to be sold saw its revenue drop by a tenth to EUR1.1bn.
