Invecem to double San Sebastian output, Venezuela

Industria Venezolana de Cemento (Invecem) is expected to double production at its plant in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Aragua state, brings its third production line on-stream, according to Venezuela’s industry minister, José David Cabello. The new line is a Sino-Venezuelan joint venture with an investment of US$144m, provided by the Chinese Fund as part of an agreement between the two countries.

Tunisia: Ciments de Bizerte inaugurates plant upgrade

With the inauguration of its upgraded production unit on 17 June 2014 in the presence of the country’s industry, energy and mines, Kamel Bennaceur, Tunisia’s Ciments de Bizerte has increased its capacity by 50 per cent to more than 1.5Mta. The upgrade is the result of a TND250m (US$149m) investment programme which was initiated three years ago. It includes a modernisation of the plant’s dust control systems which will lower emissions to 20mg/Nm3.

Shree granted extension for Karnataka project implementation

Shree Cement has been granted an extension by the state government of Karnataka for the construction of a 3Mta cement plant in the village of Kodla-Benakanalli. Berlin-based drive manufacturer Menzel has delivered a customised replacement drive that covers two different motors to an Albanian cement plant. CMA warns of rail freight hike

The Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) of India has urged the Railway Board to withdraw the 6.5 per cent rail freight hike, claiming that the cement industry cannot absorb the additional burden of INR100/t (US$1.7) that the hike will bring. Holcim New Zealand has confirmed its Westport cement plant will close by the second half of 2016 as the company now has all the final approvals to go ahead with its investment to build two 30,000t import terminals. Two new cement plants currently being implemented in Ethiopia are expected to begin production in the second half of this year, according to the director general of the Chemicals and Construction Materials Development Institute.
