Huaxin acquires stake in Cambodian plant

China's Huaxin Cement Co Ltd has bought a 40 per cent stake in Cement Chakrey Ting Factory Co Ltd of Cambodia. The US$24m investment was announced on 17 June, according to a recent company announcement. After the investment, the Cambodia cement producer's registered capital grew to US$60m from US$32m. The Hubei province-based cement manufacturer says the acquisition in Cambodia is the company's second overseas investment after establishing a subsidiary in Tajikistan in 2011.

Narra Industries Bhd, which is primarily an investment holding company for furniture and previously fibre cement, has won shareholder approval to diversify its business portfolio with new cement assets. Burundi Cement Co receives go-ahead for limestone quarry

Burundi Cement Co (BUCECO) has received government approval to start limestone exploitation on the edges of Cibitoke. Initially, the quarried limestone will meet 60 per cent of national demand but by 2020, the quarry is expected to cover the entire requirement. Asia Cement targets increased market share

Asia Cement Corp said it plans to boost its market share in the provinces of Hubei, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Jiangsu, the company disclosed at its annual shareholders’ meeting. Through mergers and acquisitions, it aims to increase market share to above 30 per cent in five major Chinese cities: Wuhan, Nanchang, Jiujiang, Chengdu and Yangzhou. Cemex Colombia investigates alternative power sources

Cemex is interested in landfill biogas, wind and solar energy sources in Colombia and evaluates projects of US$50m (EUR36.9m) for the next five years, Colombian daily El Tiempo said last week. Semen Indonesia plans Padang power plant

State-run cement producer, PT Semen Indonesia, is considering building a 100MW coal-fired power plant to supply its facilities in Padang, West Sumatra, the construction of which is expected to start next year.
