Maple Leaf signs rail transport agreement, Pakistan

Pakistan Railways has signed an agreement with local cement producer Maple Leaf to transport cement from Daud Khel to Karachi. Railways GM (Operations) Anjum Pervaiz and Maple Leaf representative Saeed Sehgal signed the agreement on Monday. Initially, the agreement has been signed for a period of three years. Cemex hikes prices by 7% in Mexico

Cemex is to increase the price of grey cement in Mexico by seven per cent, its second increase of 2014. The company hiked prices in its domestic market during the first quarter of this year. Together with the new increment, prices have risen by 14.5 per cent on a cumulative basis so far in 2014. Moroccan cement sales notes 4.5 per cent drop in May

Cement sales in Morocco continue to decline as dispatches in May fell 4.46 per cent, bringing the year-to-date fall to 3.37 per cent. The largest decrease was noted in the region of Oued Eddahab-Lagouira where sales plunged 18.5 per cent YoY to 13,273t. In Casablanca sales slipped 1.9 per cent to 835,469t in May 2014. Paraguay to inject US$67m in INC

The Paraguayan state will lend Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) US$67m to reactivate the company’s investments in its Vallemí and Villeta plants, which were on hold due to lack of funds.  The investments include a fuel conversion at the kiln of Vallemí as well as a new cooler and the optimisation of limestone grinding at the works. At Villeta, the company is reportedly investing US$7m in two new packing machines, to be supplied by Haver & Boecker.

PPC Zimbabwe sales fall 5%

PPC Zimbabwe's domestic sales fell by five per cent in the first five months of the year as housebuilding activity slows. Managing director, Njombo Lekula, said domestic market sales have been flat compared to last year when growth in housing projects boosted demand for cement.
