Uzbekistan has seen the official launch of a US$116m cement plant in Jizzakh oblast, which will add to the country’s grey and white cement production capabilities. The greenfield works, based in the Zafarabad area, has a grey capacity of 0.76Mta, plus 0.35Mta of white cement. PT Semen Indonesia, the country’s leading producer, is looking at expanding its presence into the Middle East and Africa region by developing factories there in 2016, CEO Dwi Soetjipto as quoted by Investor Daily. Ugandan producer Hima Cement has outlined ambitious sustainability plans focussed on five main pillars. The company, owned by Kenya’s Bamburi Cement and part of the Lafarge Group, said the plan will be a key focus this year. Colombian cement demand expanded by 11.7 per cent in February 2014 compared to the previous year with dispatches reaching 924,000t, according to the statistics office, Dane. Taiwan Cement sees 28.81% jump in net profit

Taiwan Cement posted a record TWD10.03bn (US$330m) in net profit last year, up 28.81 per cent from a year earlier, the company said in a statement on Monday. Consolidated sales for 2013 rose 2.11 per cent YoY to about NT$116.10bn, while its gross margin rose about four percentage points from a year earlier to 19.66 per cent. QNCC signs LoI with Fives FCB for 5000tpd Umm Bab expansion

Qatar National Cement Co (QNCC) yesterday signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Fives FCB for the QAR950m (US$261m) expansion of its Umm Bab cement works, according to Qatar’s official news agency QNA. The France-based company will be responsible for the construction of a fifth production line with a capacity of 5000tpd. The new line is expected to come on-stream in July 2016 and bring the total capacity of the plant at 17,000tpd, QNA reported.

Vietnam 1Q14 domestic sales rise 8% YoY

Vietnam sold 10.23Mt of cement in the domestic market in the first quarter of this year, up eight per cent from a year ago, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) said. Sanghi Industries invests in capacity expansion, shipping and distribution capabilities

Sanghi Industries Ltd (SIL) is to expand its production by 30 per cent, and is set to acquire ships and establish terminals to improve logistics.   The company is to raise cement capacity from 2.6Mta to 3.5Mta by the end of 2015 at its Abdasa plant in the Kutch district of Gujarat. “Currently, clinker production is higher than cement production at our plant. Lipetskcement reports 8.8% rise in output, Russia

Lipetskcement, part of the Eurocement group, produced 81,420t of cement in the first two months of this year, 8.8 per cent more than the same period of 2013. Société des Ciments de Sigus (SCS) has received bids from French, Danish and Chinese bidders to build its new cement works in Oum-El-Bouaghi, Algeria. The EUR350m project will see the construction of a 2Mta cement works, which is part of the investments planned by Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algerie (GICA).
