UniCem begins construction of new line, Nigeria14 March 2014, Published under Cement NewsUnited Cement Company of Nigeria (UNICEM) has started construction of its second line to meet growing demand for cement in Nigeria. Addressing journalists in Calabar, Olivier Lenoir, managing director of the company, said that the new 2.5Mta line will double UniCem’s existing capacity to 5Mta upon completion in 2016. Sinoma of China is constructing the new kiln line. The project also includes a 45MW captive power plant by Wartsila Nigeria Ltd, the work for which has already begun. |
Asia Cement attributable profit surges14 March 2014, Published under Cement NewsAsia Cement (China) said its profit attributable to owners for the year ended 31 December 2013 surged 108 per cent YoY to CNY823m (US$133.8m). Its basic and diluted earnings per share were CNY52.9 cents. The revenue was CNY7.33bn, an increase of 9.7 per cent from a year earlier. Gross profit rose 44.1 per cent YoY to CNY1.62bn, a gross profit margin of 22 per cent, up from 17 per cent in 2012. Argentina: monthly cement demand slips12 March 2014, Published under Cement NewsIn February 2014, dispatches from Argentina’s cement plants fell 13.9 per cent MoM to 802,573t, including exports. However, YoY the drop was more modest at 4.4 per cent, data from domestic association AFCP reveals. Domestic cement consumption saw a similar MoM and a 3.1 per cent YoY decrease with cement producers delivering 783,917t. No imports were recorded. |
Pakistan February sales 8.7% higher12 March 2014, Published under Cement NewsPakistan cement sales rose by 8.7 per cent YoY in February 2014 to 2.135Mt, led by strong demand from the domestic market. Saudi sees monthly sales decline12 March 2014, Published under Cement NewsSaudi cement sales declined by three per cent to 4.59Mt in February 2014, compared to 4.74Mt in the same month of last year, local media have reported.
