Pakistan cement producers fear further production costs increases after the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) has been increased from PKR50/mmbtu to PKR100. This will push up costs for those producers with gas-fed captive power plants, such as Lucky Cement, DG Khan Cement and Maple Leaf Cement Company. Argentina reports annual consumption gains

Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 16.1 per cent YoY in December to reach 914,964t, latest data from industry association AFCP shows. However, despite the annual increase, the December 2013 figure was 12.6 per cent lower compared to demand in November 2013. Portland cement shipments by the domestic industry (including exports) were 927,964t in December 2013, also down 12.6 per cent from November's figures, but 14.7 per cent higher YoY.

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM, the country's leading cement producer, is targeting more than VND30trn (US$1.4m) in revenue this year. To meet these goals, the company will focus on cost reduction strategies, renew production techniques, among other measures. Swiss cement shipments in 2013 rose by 3.8 per cent YoY, latest data from local association cemsuisse reveals. Fourth quarter sales proved to be particularly strong, rising 7.2 per cent YoY due to favourable weather conditions.
