Pakistan July dispatches decline

Pakistan reported a decline in dispatches for the first month of fiscal FY13-14 as the pace of construction slowed due to monsoon rains and Ramadan. During July 2013 (the first month of FY13-14), local cement sales fell 10.43 per cent YoY to 1.846Mt compared to 2.060Mt in July 2012. Cement imports into Algeria soared nearly 86 per cent to US$211.59m in the 1H13 when compared with the previous year’s US$113.78m, according to the country’s national statistics office, CNIS. Kesoram Industries to construct 3Mta plant in Maharashtra, India

Kesoram Industries, part of the BK Birla Group, is to establish a 3Mta cement plant in Solapur in the state of Maharashtra. “The Solapur cement plant is a two-stage project. Iran’s cement output in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (beginning 21 March 2013) increased by five per cent compared to the same period of the previous year. Lafarge Cement Zambia has reduced its exports by 15 per cent due to buoyant domestic construction market needs. Holcim (New Zealand) is to close its Westport cement plant as it looks to build a new import terminal elsewhere in the country. Cimburkina to bring 0.65Mta capacity online in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso’s CIM-METAL Group SA has signed an investment agreement of XOF68.2bn (US$138m) with Burkina Faso for the construction and operation of cement and metal processing plants. The local cement market will now also be supplied by Cimburkina, in which Germany’s HeidelbergCement has a stake. Cimburkina is expected to bring 0.65Mta of cement capacity online in December, representing an investment of XOF25bn (US$50.6m).

Eurocement 1H output rises 5%

The cement output of Russia’s Eurocement Group increased by five per cent to 11.5Mt during January to June 2013, the company said in a statement. Cement shipments, meanwhile, rose by seven per cent during the six month period. Indonesia-based cement producer PT Semen Padang said it plans to start construction of its sixth line at the end of 2013 to meet growing national demand for cement.
