Cimpor to boost grinding capacity in Mozambique

Cimpor plans to increase its grinding capacity in Mozambique by 220,000tpa through its local subsidiary Cimentos de Moçambique. Uruguay’s ANCAP will be exporting 0.6Mt of Portland cement to Argentina and Paraguay, thanks to the expansion of its Paysandú works. Alkitan plans Basra cement plant, Iraq

Pakistan-based company Alkitan has expressed interest to construct a new cement plant in Iraq, the Basra Investment Commission announced. Shakir Ali, general director of Alkitan, said the company is interest in establishing cement factories in the Middle East and have chosen the province of Basra, Iraq, due to the abundant natural resources and investment opportunities. Ali added: “Our company intends to establish a cement plant in the province on an area of ??50 acres in the south.”

Ecuador enjoys 13% YoY increase in 1H13 sales

Ecuador’s cement producers delivered 523,525t of cement to the domestic market in June, representing a 6.4 per cent YoY rise and a 4.2 per cent MoM increase. In May cement sales reached 553,278t. According to data from local cement association Inecyc, the Jan-Jun 2013 period, total sales increased by 12.7 per cent to 3,107,306t from 2,779,812t in the equivalent period of 2012.

Cementos Progreso begins building San Gabriel works

Cementos Progreso started construction on its new plant in San Juan Sacatepéquez, 30km of the capital, in northeastern Guatemala. It is expected that construction of the 2.2Mta plant will take three years and is scheduled to come online in 2017. The project includes reforestation programmes. PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa is planning to raise its cement prices in an effort to help offset an increase in subsidised fuel prices. Bolivia: Fancesa increases output 18%

Bolivia’s Fábrica Nacional de Cemento SA (Fancesa) increased its production by 18 per cent, delivering an extra 11,000 bags of cement to the market. "We were with 51,000 bags of cement and 62,000 dispatched now, our projection is to reach 72,000 bags of cement per day" said Fancesa director, Luis Ayllon. In Santa Cruz, Fancesa’s main market, daily deliveries increased from 26,000 to 34,000 bags.

Shree Digvijay Cement on Thursday said Votorantim Cimentos will dilute a 0.27 per cent stake in the company to meet the minimum public shareholding norm. “The promoter/promoter group intends to sell 0.27 per cent shareholding in the company amounting to 3,82,474 equity shares of the company on the floor of BSE,” the Gujarat-based cement maker said in a Bombay stock exchange filing.
