Vanda Prima to build IDR1.4tn cement works

Indonesian private cement producer Vanda Prima Listri announced plans to build a IDR1.4tn (US$145m) cement works in the Grobogan district of Central Jakarta. “If realised, the cement production per year is expected to reach one million tons,” said Bambang Darusalam, a commissioner at the company. Schwenk invests EUR20m in grinding unit

Germany’s Schwenk Zement will invest EUR20m in a new grinding plant, which is slated to work more efficiently, with lower energy requirement and reduced noise levels. Part of the equipment at the Allmending works is 30-40 years old, said works manager Jürgen Thormann, including a tube ball mill. As a result, the company will invest in a new unit – a roller mill. It is expected that work on the foundations will start this year, with the new mill entering operation in 2014.

Pakistan’s October exports fall but 4MFY12-13 exports see rising value

Pakistan’s cement producers recorded a fall in cement exports to 741,782t at US$43.68m when compared with the September figure of 745,237t at US$54.96, declines of 0.46% and 20.53%, respectively. On a YoY basis, export volumes fell 19.4% from 920,375t and 12.54% from US$49.948m in October 2011. Kuwait investors to build cement plant in Budaka, Uganda

President Museveni broke ground for the construction of a cement plant in Daka village, Budaka District, Uganda. The new 5000tpd factory will be constructed by the Dao Group of Kuwait and is expected to be twice the size of the Hima Cement Factory in Kasese. Presently, Uganda counts two cement plants, operated by Tororo Cement and Lafarge-owned Hima Cement, resulting in a national installed capacity of 1.9Mta.

US cement demand to rise or fall depends on resolution timing

Cement sales in Indonesia rose 10.7% YoY in October with the highest growth in the Moluccas and on Papua. October sales in the areas stood at 87,316t, representing a 68.5% hike on the previous year, according to data from PT Semen Gresik Tbk. US cement consumption falters

United States cement consumption in September fell 2.3 per cent versus the same month last year, representing a reversal of the growth trend for the first time in 2012. According to preliminary figures released by the USGS, monthly cement consumption reached 6.95Mt in September, versus 7.12Mt in 2011. Nevertheless, year-to-date consumption in 2012 has still outperformed 2011, and reached 59.56Mt in the first nine months, up 10.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2011.

Adocem reports fall in domestic demand

The Dominican cement association Adocem reports that this year to date has seen a decline in cement consumption. In the first 10 months of the year, cement demand in the Dominican Republic totalled 2.2Mt, down 8.2% when compared with the equivalent period in 2011. It forecasts a full-year figure of 2.6Mt.
