Vietnam cement stocks rise to 4Mt in Jan-Oct

Vietnam’s cement inventory rose by 51.3% YoY to 4Mt in the first 10 months of 2012, including 1.4Mt of Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. Egyptian Steel ventures into cement

The Qatari-Egyptian steel producer Egyptian Steel will be investing around US$250m in a new cement works. The venture will seek to acquire a cement licence out of the seven the Egyptian government is planning to offer. If successful, it is expected that the works will have an annual capacity of 1.5-1.8Mta, said Abu Hashima, Egyptian Steel chairman.

Siam City Cement Plc reported a drop in net profit for the third quarter and the first nine months due to weak prices even though sales have surged. Third-quarter net profit fell 8.8% YoY to THB792m (US$25.7m), while revenue grew 7.7% to THB6.59bn.
