Lafarge CEO to visit Bangladesh

Bruno Lafont, Chairman and CEO of the Lafarge Group, is set to arrive in Dhaka, Bangladesh, today to review operations of its local subsidiary Lafarge Surma Cement. Birla Corp starts trial production at Chanderia, India

Birla Corporation Ltd. has commenced trial production of clinker from its 1.2Mt brownfield capacity expansion project at Chanderia in Rajasthan. Suez Cement strike action, Egypt

Egyptian cement producer, Suez Cement, said that workers in two of its factories started strike action on 14 March. The strike has halted shipping at the Suez and Katamiya plants, although production has not been affected. (Bloomberg)

Peruvian cement shipments have shown strong increases for the third month in a row indicating a recovery in public investment and an acceleration in domestic sales. Shipments reached 418,824t in February 2012, representing an 11.67 per cent YoY advance from 270,562t, the cement producers association (Asocem) reported.
