Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant and SC Uzstroymateriali have announced plans to build a new 600,000tpa cement plant in Uzbekistan. Zuari subsidiary to expand Sitapuram unit, India

Sri Vishnu Cement, India, is planning to expand its clinker manufacturing capacity at Sitapuram, district Nalgonda, in Andhra Pradesh, from 1.1Mta to 2Mta. Sri Vishnu Cement, part of Zuari Cement, expects work to commence in 2015 and be completed within 18 months.

Abhijeet Cement, India, is planning an integrated cement plant in district Morena in Madhya Pradesh. The new project, located at Bhilampur, will consist of a 2Mta cement line and a 50MW captive power plant. The project is currently approval from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Swiss cement deliveries fall 21.8% in 1Q2012

Swiss cement deliveries dropped 21.8% YoY for the first quarter of 2012, reports Cemsuisse. Dispatches across the country and Liechtenstein fell from 1.020Mt in 1Q2011 to 0.798Mt. The Swiss cementassociation attributes the decrease to the cold weather during the period, which saw the pouring of concrete halted, unlike the previous year when building activity was hardly interrupted.

Pakistan domestic sales rise, exports drop

Pakistan cement sales increased 14.8 per cent in March following however exports continued their downward trend by falling 23.72 per cent. A spokesman from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) said that domestic sales crossed the 2.55Mt mark. Shareholders of Vicem’s Hoang Mai Cement Joint Stock Co have agreed invest VND102.7bn in projects this year. Local press report that the company plans to spend VND67bn in building a new production line in Hoang Mai 2 cement plant with designed capacity of 4.5Mta. In 2012, the company has set targets to reach total revenue of VND1.645trn, pre-tax profit of VND163bn, increasing by 11.4 per cent and 7.8 per cent respectively against 2011.

Jaiprakash Associates' cement dispatches in March 2012 has increased by 32% at 2.08Mt, as against 1.57Mt in the same month of 2011. Workers at Irish Cement Ltd, Platin have commenced strike action in a dispute over what they claim is the company's failure to honour a Labour Court recommendation relating to the payment of outstanding monies to its employees. A fresh supply of cement was offloaded at the Trinidad Cement Ltd  port yesterday and the company's management assures customes that there is no shortage of cement in the market as strike action at the plant continues.
