Building contractors in Tobago have been affected by strike action at Trinidad Cement’s plant in Claxton Bay, the Trinidad and Tobago Express reports. Indocement to invest in new factory, Indonesia

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, part of the HeidelbergCement Group, is set to construct a new cement factory in Citereup, West Java, according to local press reports. Asia in Focus has reported that the company is investing US$440m in the new facility. Corporate secretary Sahat Pangabena, however, refused to give details about the plan, saying Indocement will announce details later this month.

SCG Trading targets 30% rise in revenues, Thailand

SCG Trading, a unit of Siam Cement Group, targets annual sales growth of 30 per cent from this year onwards, driven by coal and building-materials business, particularly overseas, The Nation reports. Managing director Kalin Sarasin said the company was accelerating investment and expansion in both coal and building-materials trading in Asia, as they were both fast-growing sectors in the region.

UltraTech Cement in talks to buy northeastern plant

UltraTech Cement, the largest cement producer in India, is in talks to buy north-eastern cement producer Adhunik MPS Cement’s Meghalaya plant for over INR7bn., according to reports from the Economic Times (ET) of India. The report said that the 1.5Mta cement facility will boost UltraTech Cement’s presence in the fast-growing but largely untapped northeastern market. A multinational cement producer is also reported to be interested in the unit, the ET notes.

CPA: Budget brings no short term benefit, UK

India Cements has begun the process to expand capacities at two of its plants in Tamil Nadu, according to reports from the Times of India.
