Angola ban on Namibia cement set to ease

The ban on Namibian cement into Angola could be lifted by year-end, reports New Era, quoting the Angolan Minister of Commerce Dr Maria Idalina de Oliveira Valente.

Indonesian sales growth beats expectations

Indonesia’s cement sales rose 20 per cent in June from the same month last year, according to data from the country’s cement association on Monday. "I am surprised. This is above our expectation of six per cent (growth) this year," Urip Trimuryono, chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association, told Reuters. Total sales from January to June this year rose 14.8 per cent from the same period in the previous year, also above the association’s forecast.

US shipments down 14% YoY in April 2011

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for April 2011 were 5.7Mt which was nearly 14% lower than shipments in April 2010. Shipments for the year through April were about 18.3Mt, about 2% lower than those of the same period in 2010. South African June sales edge higher YoY

Cement sales in South Africa moved 10.2 per cent higher YoY in June to 996,500t, from 903,857t in June 2010, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute showed. Sales were 912,585t in May. Domestic sales on a year-to-date basis were flat at 5.197Mt, from 5.195Mt for the same period in 2010. The average daily cement sales declined to 42,599t on a year-to-date basis, from 43,308t in 2010.

Arabian Cement Co, Huta Marine sign limestone deal

Saudi cement producer Arabian Cement Company (ACC) said it signed on Monday an agreement with Saudi-based marine civil engineering and dredging company Huta Marine Works, under which Huta will supply ACC with limestone coming from the construction and dredging works at the seaport of King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). Huta is currently working on an extension to the channel into the KAEC. ACC said its estimates show that the deal with Huta will provide 34Mta of limestone.

Argentina’s producers see sales rise 14% in 1H11

In June, Argentine cement producers shipped 921,573t, 8.6% less than in May but noting a 12.5% increase YoY, says Association of Portland Cement Manufacturers (AFCP). According to its provisional data, domestic deliveries contracted 9.8% to 890,588t during the month when compared with May. The first six months of 2011 saw cement sales rise by 14.1% YoY to 5.514Mt. The ambitious expansion plans of cement manufacturers face deferral and some are running behind schedule. About INR13bn (US$293.2m) of projects have been deferred, while no new clinker capacities have been ordered since April. In its latest trading statement, Steppe Cement shows that in the 1H11, it sold 601,099t of cement for KZT6286m (US$43.2m), compared with 523,156t of cement for KZT4694m in the 1H10.
