Sinai Cement to use fuel oil for longer, Egypt

Sinai Cement will use fuel oil for a longer period after an explosion disrupted natural-gas supplies, Al Mal reported, citing a company official. The use of fuel oil as an alternative for natural gas will cost the company 25 per cent more, the Cairo-based newspaper said, citing Alaa Mogahed, investor relations manager.

Taiwan Cement acquires line in Guizhou Province, China

Taiwan Cement Corp said Wednesday it has agreed to acquire a cement production line in Guizhou Province, southwestern China, to tap into the growing demand on the mainland. Taiwan Cement said it will buy Kaili Shui On from Shui On Construction and Materials Ltd. for HK$218m (US$36m) The deal is subject to approval by Taiwan’s Investment Commission.

Two bidders are willing to supply clinker to INC?

Two companies submitted bids yesterday to the Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) with the intention of providing 40,000t of imported clinker. They are Sociedad Export 2 S&P SA and Distripen de Haydee María Bordón Rodas. The first bid of US$ 4,640,000 and the second of US$5320,000, officials said the cement.

Madras Cements to divest grinding unit

Madras Cements, the flagship enterprise of Chennai-based Ramco Group, is holding talks with Lafarge and Holcim to divest its cement grinding unit in West Bengal for roughly INR350 crore, said sources. Lafarge India may buy majority stake in local firm

Lafarge India Pvt Ltd may acquire a majority stake in Meghalaya-based Cement Manufacturing Company Ltd (CMCL), which sells cement under ’Star Cement’ brand.

CMCL, which is a 70.48% subsidiary of Century Plyboards India Ltd, has a capacity of 1.2Mt in Meghalaya. The company is also adding another 3.2Mt grinding capacity in Assam and Bihar. Once completed, this is expected to take up the total capacity to 4.4Mt by the end of 2012.
