Cement manufacturer Lafarge Cement WAPCO has commissioned its NGN23bn (US$151.8m) power plant in Ewekoro Ogun State, in a move to ameliorate the power crisis currently facing the country. Lafarge SA, the world’s largest cement producer, reaffirmed its commitment to building a cement plant in Langkat, northern Sumatra, with an investment of up to IDR5trn (US$585m), Indonesia’s industry minister said. Vietnam produces 30.1Mt of cement in 1H11

Cement producers in Vietnam are estimated to have manufactured 30.1Mt of cement in the first half of this year. The figure represents a YoY increase of 14.7%, the government’s General Statistics Office said in a monthly report released late Wednesday. In June, the country’s cement output is estimated to stand at 5.9Mt, up 28.2% YoY. The Ministry of Construction forecasts Vietnam’s cement consumption to reach between 54.5Mt and 56Mt this year, up 9%-10% from a year earlier.
