Italian production levels fall 30% from 2006 highs

The Italian cement industry is still being affected by a stagnation of the construction sector, said Alvise Zillo Monte Xillo, president of the Italian cement association, AITEC at a recent meeting. Honduras cement companies set to raise prices

Honduras’ Ministry of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has warned that it could decree freezing cement prices as local companies demand increases of 5 and 6 lempiras. Minister Francisco Zelaya has criticized the proposed increase, stating that there is no justification for such an increase. The previous week, the cement industry had requested increasing the price of a 42.5kg bag of cement by 5 and 6 lempiras. Cementos Yura expands its plant in Arequipa, Peru?

The Gloria Group Arequipa has marked completion of the expansion of its Cementos Yura cement plant with a ceremony in the presence of Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez. With an investment involving US$ 270m, the company seeks to triple production to serve local markets in southern Peru and northern Chile national markets, in southern Peru and northern Chile, and also to export more quantities to Bolivia, above the 28,000tpa already traded.

Azerbaijan cement output up in first five months

Production of cement in Azerbaijan reached 555,7000t in the firs five months of 2011, up 18 per cent compared to the same period last year. Last year, the country produced 1.28Mt of cement for the full year, representing a 0.6 per cent fall in output compared to 2009.

Proposed Holcim New Zeland plant to be put to board

The proposal for the Holcim plant at Weston will now be put to the company’s board for a decision. Holcim has previously said it hopes the proposal will go before the board this year. The company is proposing a new facility to be established in the coastal town of Oamaru.

Sinai Cement was downgraded to "hold" from "strong buy" by CI Capital as the repercussions from the unrest on the company became clear. Indonesian Jan-May sales up 13.5%

Cement sales in Indonesia surged in May, driven by increasing demand in the construction and property sector on the nation’s main island, a trade association announced. 

 Sales rose 19.5 per cent to 4.1Mt compared with a year earlier, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). For January through May period, sales climbed 13.5 per cent to 18.4Mt from a year earlier.
