Angola has barred all cement exports from Namibia as of last Monday evening. A representative from Namibia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) called the decision by the Angolan government "a step backward in Southern Africa Development Community (SADC)’s push for regional integration". Alexandria Portland Cement approves loan for unit, Egypt

Alexandria Portland Cement Co said its board of directors has approved a EGP400m (US$67m) loan to its subsidiary Beni Suef Cement Co. The loan will have a six-month term at an interest of the average monthly bank deposit rate plus 0.5 per cent, APCC said in a filing to the Egyptian bourse today. The lender will have the right "to claim the full or partial repayment of the loan by notifying the borrower five days in advance," the company said.

Taiheiyo Cement’s Vietnam operating profit seen rising 50%

Taiheiyo Cement Corp’s operating profit in Vietnam is expected to increase 50% on the year to slightly more than JPY2bn (US$24.8m) for the year ending in March 2012. A second kiln installed at the end of last fiscal year at Taiheiyo’s Vietnam factory will contribute to earnings throughout this fiscal year. Ukraine May 2011 production falls

Cement production in Ukraine in May 2011 fell by 7.3 per cent to 1.06Mt  compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the State Statistics Committee. This is in contrast to April 2011 where production grew 8.2 per cent YoY. For the first five months of 2011, cement production was 3.24Mt, up 10.7% in the same period of 2010. Last year production was down 0.4% compared to 2009 to 9.46Mt.

HeidelbergCement plans Kazakhstan plant opening in 2013

HeidelbergCement plans to start production at a EUR200m cement plant in Kazakhstan in 2013, the Central Asian nation’s Industry Ministry said. The plant will produce 1Mta of cement, board member Andreas Kern told Deputy Prime Minister Aset Isekeshev during a meeting today, the Astana-based ministry said. Located in the western region of Mangistau, the plant may double capacity in the future, it added.

Henan Tongli Cement intends to raise CNY804m (US$124m) to fund two cement lines in Yima city, Henan province, China and also in Mozambique. The remaining funds will repay bank loans.
