El Salvador’s cement market not expected to pick up this year

Cement sales in El Salvador during the 1H11 rose by 4%, but are not expected to increase much during the rest of the year, according to Holcim El Salvador’s CEO Ricardo Chavez Capparroso. “"We are seeing a slight recovery since February of this year until last month, about four per cent compared to last year,” said the executive. Vietnam’s cement consumption stood at 25.07Mt in the first half of this year, fulfilling 46% of the sector’s full-year target. In June, the country used 3.93Mt of cement, the Ministry of Construction said on its website, giving no on-year comparative figure. Egypt: Sinai Cement’s production cost rises by 25%

Mr Mostafa Yousef, CFO of Sinai Cement, announced that the production cost of cement increased 25% after the natural gas line feeding the company exploded this week. He added that Sinai Cement had to use the more expensive fuel oil (mazout) to maintain production. According to the head of Be’r Al Abd City, one week is needed to repair the line.

President of Mika Cement CJSC Mikhail Baghdasarov forecasts a drop in cement prices in Armenia after modernisation of its Hrazdan plant. “The price may drop after modernisation,” Baghdasarov told a press conference in Yerevan. Guam: Hanson Cement overhauls shipping line to boost capacity

Hanson Permanente Cement, Guam’s largest bulk cement supplier, has raised its capacity by 50% by overhauling its shipping method to help meet the projected boost in demand for cement in the Guam military build-up, according to Derek Sadler, Hanson general manager. Saudi Arabian Cement Co to boost Rabigh plant production capacity

Saudi cement producer Arabian Cement Co (ACC) said in a bourse filing yesterday it is currently studying a project to add a production line at its Rabigh plant. The new production line will have a capacity of 7000tpd and is expected to start operations in the 1Q14. No financial details were available. ACC is headquartered in Jeddah, western Saudi Arabia, and its plant is located in the Rabigh area of Saudi Arabia with clinker capacity kilns of 2.5Mta and a grinding capacity of around 3Mta.

Century Textiles and Industries Ltd’s INR20bn (US449.9m) upgrade and expansion programme to increase cement capacity is expected to be complete by March 2013, the company said in its 2010-11 annual report. Kesoram Industries, the flagship of the Basant Kumar Birla group, has put its cement capacity expansion plan on hold because of excess capacity in the market.
