Holcim Monitoring consolidation in Chinese cement market

Lafarge 2010 sales in Romania fall 13.4%

Lafarge’s business in Romania fell by 13.4 per cent last year compared to the previous, from EUR 270m  to EUR 233.7m, said Philippe Questiaux, president and CEO of Lafarge Cement Romania. The results include cement sales, with the largest share, aggregate and concrete. Lafarge has slowed down the sales drop in Romania compared to the previous year, when the turnover decreased by 43 per cent, from EUR 480m  in 2008.

The Indian cement industry is set to continue being impacted by increasing volume additions and higher input costs, according to Harsh Lodha, chairman of the Birla Corp. Kenya’s East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) has disputed the 2009/2010 Government performance contracting results that ranked it as the third worst performer. The cement manufacturer said the ranking dents its reputation. US cement shipments decline 13.5% in April

Cement shipments in the United States declined by 13.5% in April compared to the same month in 2010, according to preliminary data released by the US Geological Survey. This was only the third monthly decline in 14 months, and is likely to have been caused by the bad weather in certain regions of the US, a strong base of comparison with April 2010 (8.8% increase) and there being one less working day in April 2011 than April 2010, according to analysts at Jefferies. Flood waters persist at Buzzi Unicem works, USA

Although the Mississippi River has been dropping steadily, flooding problems persist at Buzzi Unicem on South Sprigg Street in Cape Girardeau.

The cement plant still has about two-thirds of its quarry under water, said Steve Leus, plant manager. Its primary crushing machine is also underwater.

Belarus may face cement shortage due to project delays

Belarus may face a shortage of cement in the coming years due to a delay in the fulfillment of contractual obligations by Chinese CITIC Group Corporation, a state-owned investment company, who signed an agreement with the Belarus government a few years ago to modernise the country’s production base by building new lines.  The total value of the contract is estimated at more than US$1.3bn.
