Citadel Capital chairman Ahmed Heikal returned to Cairo on Sunday after he was cleared of charges relating to a suspicious deal in the privatization of the Helwan Portland Cement Company. Workers of Lafarge staged a strike yesterday, blocking 10 cement producing plants and four grinding facilities in France. The strike continues today. A recent fire at the PT Semen Tonasa IV plant in Bungoro, Pangkep regency, South Sulawesi, will not affect the government’s production target this year, an industry group said.

The Ministry of Finance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reported that the Saudi Investment Development Fund (SIDF) committed loans amounting to SAR9695m (US$2584m) to the cement industry in 2010, equivalent to 11% of total loans approved and amounting to the same value of loans committed in 2009.
