CEMBUREAU – 2010 production and demand down

Recent activity data from CEMBUREAU, the European cement association, shows that production in the countries that it covers showed a slight decrease in cement production last year compared to 2009 of 0.7% to 257.4Mt. This takes into account a boost of volumes in Turkey. Without Turkey, CEMBUREAU countries performed negatively with an overall drop in production of -5.2%. Dyckerhoff Ukraine to increase production

Dyсkerhоff Ukraine intends to increase cement production by 24.14%, or 0.35Mt to 1.8Mt this year, compared with the 2010. In addition, Dyсkerhоff Ukraine intends this year to invest EUR3m in the installation of a new separator for two cement mills at its Volyn Cement works.

Messebo aims to reach full production this month, Ethiopia

Following the completion of Messebo Cement Factory’s expansion in March 2011, the company plans to complete the commissioning of the expansion work to increase its clinker capacity by 4000tpd by the end of this month. The work is set to increase the factory’s production from 3000tpd of clinker to 7000tpd. The factory’s expansion was completed in 24 months by China’s Hefei Cement Research & Design Institute (HCRDI).

ABG plans Kutch plant, India

ABG Cement Limited is planning to set up a 3.3Mta clinker and 5.5Mta cement plant at Thumbdi, Kutch, Gujarat. The work is in progress and expected to be completed by December 2011.

MoF imposes anti-dumping customs duty on China imports

As of 30 May, Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance has imposed interim anti-dumping customs tariff of 95.29% on cement imports from China for four months, with the rate much higher than 50% expected by industry insiders. Financial Supervisory Authority rejects ASEC capital increase

The Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (EFSA) rejected ASEC Mining’s request to increase its capital from EGP350m to EGP450m (US$58.9m and US$75.7m) by issuing 10m shares at par value of EGP10/share, according to a report in Mubasher. The move had been approved by the Company’s Board of Directors held on 2 June, 2011.

Approval of Argos, Lafarge deal expected by August

Colombia’s largest cement producer, Cementos Argos, expects US authorities to approve its acquisition of US assets from Lafarge by 1 August, the company’s head of communications, Juan Pablo Lema, told BNamericas. The deal will boost the Colombian company’s US cement production capacity to 3.2Mta, while concrete will increase to 10Mm3 per annum.
