Far Eastern Group: mulling acquisition of China cement makers

Taiwanese conglomerate Far Eastern Group is in talks with clinker and cement producer China Shanshui Cement Group Co about acquiring cement plants in China from the Chinese firm, Far Eastern President Xu Xu-dong said Wednesday. India’s UltraTech cement shipments up 4.3% YoY

India’s largest cement producer UltraTech Cement said on Tuesday cement shipments in February were at 3.33Mt, up 4.3 per cent from a year earlier. Production was up 2.9 per cent to 3.34Mt, the company said in a statement.

New contract for TurboSonic, USA

TurboSonic Technologies, Inc today announced that it has been awarded a US$1.25m contract for the design and supply of equipment for abatement of SO2 and NOx for an undisclosed US cement plant. This is the 18th contract for supply of TurboSonic’s technologies to this leading cement producer since 2004. Equipment is scheduled for delivery in its next fiscal year commencing July 1, 2011.

Cimpor 4Q net profit up 21%

Portuguese cement maker Cimpor posted a 21 per cent rise fourth-quarter net profit, beating expectations as strong sales in Brazil and Turkey offset weakness in the Iberian market. "Brazil and Turkey were the countries which contributed most for cement and clinker sales increases, while China also contributed and became the third-largest market in sales volumes," Portugal’s largest cement maker said on Tuesday. CRH sees a further reduction in profits in 2010

CRH’s turnover declined by 1.2% in 2010 to €17,173m and the EBITDA came down by 10.4% to €1,615m. The trading profit fell by 26.9% to €698m and, after a net interest charge 16.8% lower at €247m, the running pre-tax profit was down by 32.2% to €479m.  The net attributable profit fell by 27.0% to €432m. Coal India’s price rise to hurt cement players

Several large cement producers are likely to be hit with Coal India announcing an increase in prices of coal effective 27 February. On an average, coal prices will move up by 12 per cent. The prices of premium grade A and B coal have been linked to international coal prices and would be offered at a 15 per cent discount to global spot prices.
