Shanshui Cement to raise capacity to 80Mt

China Shanshui Cement Group Ltd, a Hong Kong-based cement producer, plans to boost its cement capacity to 80Mt of cement and 50Mt of cement clinker at the end of 2011, reflecting a YoY increase of 22% and 62%, respectively. The Indian cement industry, already experiencing an oversupply situation, is expected to add 23.3Mt of capacity in 2011-12 with the southern region accounting for a lion’s share of 9.2Mt. Malaysia Tasek Corp profit rises

Tasek Corp Bhd’s pre-tax profit for the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2010 rose to MYR72.765m (23.89m) compared with MYR20.943m (US$6.9m) in the same quarter of 2009.

 Revenue increased to MYR133.674m from RM116.084m previously.

 For the 12-month period, its pre-tax profit rose to MYR156.272m from MYR87.160m in 2009.

Votorantim & Camargo Correa purchase of Cimpor given green light – with restrictions

Brazil’s antitrust authority Seae said Monday it approved Brazilian cement producers Votorantim Cimentos SA and Camargo Correa SA’s purchase of 53% of the total stock in Portuguese cement maker Cimpor, with restrictions. 
Seae’s recommendation will now proceed to Cade, Brazil’s antitrust council that is part of the country’s justice ministry, for a final ruling. Seae is part of Brazil’s finance ministry.

Brazil’s January sales up 9.1%

January 2011 sales in Brazil reached 4.7Mt, an increase of 9.1 per cent on the same month last year, recent data from Sindicato Nacional da Industria do Cimento (SNIC) showed. Cumulative sales for the last 12 months (February 2010 – January 2011) reached 59.3Mt, representing an increase of 14.4% over February 2009-January 2010.

Saudi Cement Company, one of the Kingdom’s biggest manufacturers, said net profits last year rose 13% to SAR659.5m (US$ 205m) as enhanced production lines translated into higher takings against 2009.
