Vietnam Vicem Jan-Sept sales rise

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) sold 13.017Mt of cement and clinker in the first nine months of this year, rising 6.7% from a year earlier and fulfilling 68.5% of its full-target. Of the amount, 12.8Mt was cement and 216,000t, was clinker, up 6.2% and 58.8% YoY, respectively, the corporation said on its website Monday. Vicem held 36.43% of the domestic market share during the period.

UAE dumping hits Raysut bottomline

Oman’s Raysut Cement, yesterday reported a 21.3 per cent fall in net profit at OMR19.03m (US$49.4m) for the first nine months of 2010, hit by dumping from neighbouring UAE producers, coupled with slack demand in export markets. India’s largest cement maker, has kick-started the next round of its capacity expansion which is likely to cost INR5000 crore, immediately after execution of its earlier plan of adding nearly 20Mt over the past four years. Oman Cement profits jump 35% in nine months

Oman Cement Company said that it has achieved a 34.9 per cent growth in net profit at US$59.3m for the first nine months of 2010, up from US$43.9m a year earlier, ONA reported. Anhui Conch Cement Co, China’s largest cement maker by output, said Monday its third-quarter net profit rose 45% from a year earlier due to higher product prices. The Hong Kong- and Shanghai-listed company said in a statement its net profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 was CNY1.36bn, up from CNY937.9m a year earlier. Nigerian conglomerate Dangote on Monday officially upped its stake in South Africa’s Sephaku Cement to 64%. Malta: ‘EUR9 excise duty will make things difficult’

The construction industry in Malta is currently going through a recession, therefore increasing its costs will only serve to make things increasingly difficult, according to Michael Falzon, president of the Malta Developers’ Association.
