Cementos El Monte to be absorbed by Cimpor company

Integrated Spanish cement manufacturer Sdad. de Cementos y Materiales de Construcción de Andalucía, part of the Cimpor group, is the process of absorbing of Cementos El Monte. Cementos El Monte has a grinding plant in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), which was idled about 16 months due to the slowdown in the Spanish ceemnt market over the last two years. The company’s sales declined from EUR27.15m in 2008 to EUR4.07m registered in 2009.

Dangote post record growth ahead of Nigerian listing

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement Plc posted a turnover of NGN146.56bn (US$965m) and a profit of NGN76.93bn for the third quarter ended 30 September 2010.

The Lagos-based company’s unaudited results for the first nine months of the year showed an increase in turnover by NGN55.26bn from the NGN91.30bn posted in the equivalent period in 2009. Sri Lanka: port prospects

A new port being built in Sri Lanka’s southern Hambantota has drawn investment proposals from local and foreign businesses. Madras Cements, India’s fifth largest cement maker and part of Chennai-based Ramco Group, has  proposed investing in a cement terminal at the port, a greenfield site to be operated as a free port with no taxes. Bangladesh clinker imports surge

Private cement producers and traders in Bangladesh imported clinker to the value of BDT2400m (US$34.29m) in July 2010, reflecting a 147.42% YoY growth when compared with the BDT970m value of imports in July 2009. Total imports of clinker in FY2009-10 (July-June) reached BDT23.05bn, up 6.8% against BDT21.58bn registered in FY2008-09, according to the State Bank of Bangladesh.

The Pakistan government released official export data regarding cement deliveries from the country to Afghanistan, India and African markets during the first three months (Jul-Sep) of the current FY2010-11. According to the information, Pakistan exported 2.435Mt of cement at US$109.515m during the period, compared to 2.484Mt at US$124.133m in the equivalent period one year ago. Raysut Cement posts lower earnings

Raysut Cement Co has reported a 21% decline in net profit before tax for the nine months ended 30 September, 2010. Earnings fell to OMR19.03m, compared with OMR24.18m the previous year. Malaysia’s YTL signs deal with Gopeng

YTL Cement Bhd entered into an agreement with Gopeng Bhd for the acquisition of the 35.16% interest in Perak-Hanjoong Simen Sdn Bhd for MYR200m. At present YTL owns 64.84% of equity interest in Perak-Hanjoong and after completion the purchase, the company will wholly own Perak-Hanjoong. Mexico cement industry to end year with 6% drop in sales

Despite expected growth for the Mexican economy, 2010 will prove less profitable for the country’s cement industry as a 6% fall in sales and in 4% decline in production are forecast. Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) said it recently signed a contract to export 60,000t of clinker to Bangladesh. At the end of September, Hoang Phat Vissai Group Co was awarded the contract by Hong Kong’s Peakward Enterprises Holdings to export 1.2Mt of clinker to Bangladesh. Vicem aims to export around 1Mt of cement of cement this year and reduce the country’s surplus.
