Catalonia consumptions falls 26% in September

Cement consumption in Catalonia fell 26 per cent YoY in September, compared to 2009, now registering three consecutive years of decline in the sector, Ciments Català in a statement. 
The fall exceeds the average 20 per cent decline that the sector has experienced so far this year. 
However, exports have increased significantly by trading 1.25Mt so far in 2010 –  "the highest level of the last 10 years."

South Africa’s PPC earnings seen 20-30 per cent higher

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) said on Tuesday that its headline earnings per share for the year ended September 2010 are expected to be between 20 and 30 per cent higher compared to the previous corresponding period.

Lafarge is planning to invest around EUR1-2bn in the Russian cement industry over coming years, according to reports from local press. India’s Ambuja says strike hits cement output

India’s No. 3 cement maker Ambuja Cements Ltd said on Monday dispatches and production at its plants in the northern Himachal Pradesh state had stopped since Oct 7, due to a transport strike. The company, in which Holcim holds about 46 per cent, did not give details of the likely financial impact of the strike. The two plants in Himachal account for about 2.8Mt, or about 13 per cent of the company’s total annual capacity of 22Mt.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has predicted Vietnam’s demand for cement and steel will increase about 10% next year, state media reported. The Russian government has cancelled the duty on the country’s cement exports, according to a government ruling dated October 12 and seen by PRIME-TASS on Monday. The ruling is to come into force a month after its official publication. The duty on cement exports before the cancellation amounted to 6.5%.
