El-Hamel-owned Aoulef cement plant, in Adrar, Algeria, carried out the first Algerian cement exports to Niger, according to Minister of Industry and Mines, Youcef Yousfi.  The new plant, which entered service in December 2017 exported 950t of cement overland to Niger – the first of regular shipments. Gambian cement producers, have denied being responsible for the recent price hikes in cement prices. Both Gacem and Salam Cement expressed their surprise at the retail prices. Investment minister explains cement price rises in Tanzania

Tanzania's Trade and Investment minister Charles Mwijage has clarified the reasons behind the recent rise in building materials in the country. Turkish cement export up 7% in 2017

Turkey's cement exports rose 6.9 per cent YoY to 8Mt in 2017, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TCMB). Turkey produced 81Mt of cement and clinker in 2017, up 6.8 per cent when compared with 2016. Of this total, 9.9 per cent was exported, said the TCMB. Most exports were destined for the USA, but the largest increase in export volumes was to Haiti.

Devki Group complains of substandard imports flood

Devki Group's Chairperson, Narendra Raval, has spoken out against imported cement that is disrupting the Kenyan cement market and has criticised the Kenya Bureau of Statistics (KBS) and Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) for not taking action to protect local producers. Bangladesh's cement industry earned export revenues of US$8.8m during the first eight months of FY17-18 (July 2017-February 2018), compared to US$5.93m earned in the year-ago corresponding months, reports the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Saudi cement companies' sales in February fell 11 per cent 3.63Mt compared to sales of 4.09Mt in February 2017.
