Raxaul residents challenge clinker exports to Nepal

Indian clinker exports to Nepal are facing a challenge from the residents of the border town of Raxaul. They have threatened to prevent Nepal-bound cargo trucks from passing through the customs point from 25 December unless the authorities find a solution to reduce the pollution caused by the transport of clinker. Tunisia’s Carthage Cement has been awarded the contract for the export of 350,000t of clinker to sub-Saharan Africa with delivery in 2018. The order will allow the cement company to enter the sub-Saharan market and further develop its exports.

LafargeHolcim Algeria celebrates first export from Arzew

LafargeHolcim Algeria will celebrate the first export of grey cement from the port of Arzew by a west African country. The ceremony will take place in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Commerce and LafargeHolcim Algeria's Director General, Jean-Jacques Gauthier. The shipment is the first since lifting the ban and will see the export of 16,000t of cement from LafargeHolcim’s Oggaz cement plant to Gambia.

Total cement exports from Vietnam rose to 15.12Mt in the first 10 months of 2017, representing a 22.9 per cent YoY increase. Iran has exported cement to the value US$233m in the first seven months of the current financial year (started 20 March 2017). In terms of volumes, 7.1Mt of cement were exported to some 34 countries during this period.
