DR Congo: cement price continues to fall in Matadi

The price of imported cement in Matadi, Democratic Republic of Congo, has fallen in the past week from CDF13,500 (US$13.81) to CDF9500/50kg bag. The price fall has been attributed to Angolan imports that have arrived in the market. At the border post of Lufu, the price of a 50kg bag has fallen to as low as CDF5500.

Iran: Fars cement plant exports increase by 134%

Cement plants in Fars province exported 285,700t of the construction material worth US$11.7m in the five months of the current Iranian year (started 20 March), registering a 134 per cent and 86 per cent growth in export volume and value, respectively, compared with last year’s corresponding period, according to Fars Province’s Industries, Mining and Trade Organisation. Mozambique: cement prices soar

The price of cement has risen sharply in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, with retailers across the province charging MZN480 (US$6.30) for a 50kg sack, compared with MZN350 (US$4.50) just three months ago. In July the price rose from MZN350 to MZN380, followed by a further rise in August to MZN450, and to MZN480 at present. Some establishments in Nampula city are even charging MZN500. Pakistan: exports at US$52.70m in 2M FY16-17

In July and August 2016, the first two months of FY16-17, Pakistan cement producers exported 1.01Mt of cement and earned export revenue of US$52.77m compared to 1.032Mt at US$59.60m in July-Aug 2015. Kenya's cement market is now being supplied with cement from a new source as Dangote has started exports from its 2.5Mta Ethiopian plant to the east African country. Industry sources said the majority of the exports are destined for road construction projects in the north of Kenya. The US Geological Survey has released preliminary results for the US cement shipments up to June 2016. US deliveries totalled 8,146,984t of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and blended cements in June, while foreign imports totalled just over 1Mt. The provincial government of Central Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, has lowered import taxes for grey cement by 50 per cent from CDF3000 (US$3.15) to CDF1500 per 50kg bag.
