Pakistan exports of cement show dismal figure in 6MFY2016-17

Pakistan cement exporters have earned revenues of US$16.36m on exports of 309,868t cement in December 2016, compared to US$23.68m on 455,720t of exports in the previous month. These figures represent a MoM decline in dollar value and volumes of 32 and 30 per cent, respectively. Thane police on Tuesday claimed to closed down an illegal trade in cement, wherein waste cement from railway yard warehsoue is collected and sold under the name of renowned brands. Spain: Port of Seville quadruples cement shipments in 2016

The Port of Seville, Spain, increased its throughput of cement by 481 per cent to 74,200t in 2016. In addition, the port has expanded its business lines and diversified goods accepted by the port. This includes since the start of this year the shipment of clinker, which was previously shipped by other ports in Andalucia. The port’s location close to Portland Valderrivas’ Alcalá de Guadaíra plant has also proved beneficial for such shipments.

Cement imports are undercutting cement produced by AfriSam Swaziland in price and present a risk to the viability of the domestic cement producer, according the Times of Swaziland. Pacific Basin's bulk carrier Port Botany from Japan arrived in Suva Port in Fiji yesteday ahead of its job of unloading 26,000t of clinker. The vessel will discharge its clinker load over the next six days. "The discharging will start soon after Custom Officers have checked teh vessel," said Mr Sowani Tuidrola of Pacific Basin. Portugal: Cimpor to resume cement exports from Loulé

Cimpor's Loulé plant is due to resume exports via the Algarve port of Faro, Portugal. The Algarve port of Faro, which has seen no cargo movement whatsoever since June 2016 when Cimpor, the port’s only customer, stopped production at its local Loulé plant. McInnis Cement announced it has signed an agreement with Gaspe Railway Corporation (Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie - SCFG) for the distribution of cement from New Richmond, Quebec, to various Canadian and US markets.
