Armenian cement exports to Georgia double

Exports of cement from Armenia to Georgia have doubled in the first three months of the year compared to the same period of 2012. Armenpress reported that exports reached 36,568t, citing data from the government's State Revenue Committee. China first-quarter 2013 exports rise

China exported 2.85Mt of cement and cement clinker worth of US$160m in the first quarter of 2013, a YoY increase of 30.6 per cent and 20.8 per cent respectively, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Full year exports last year were expected to have reached 11.5Mt last year, up 8.5 per cent on the 10.6Mt in 2011. 

Algeria: Gica launches 1.5Mt import tender

Algerian cement company Gica launched a tender for the importation of 1.5Mta of cement with the first delivery of 0.95Mt due early July. The imports are expected to alleviate the cement shortage in the country, which currently has a demand exceeding 20Mt but only 17Mt in national output. US February shipments edge ahead

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for February 2013 were about 4.7Mt, slightly more than shipments in February 2012. Saudi cement producers urged to maintain reserve supplies

The government of Saudi Arabia is urging cement companies to maintain a strategic stockpile of cement to prevent future shortages. A directive to this effect was issued by the Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, according to local press reports. Pakistan exported 6.22Mt of cement in the first nine months of FY12-13 earning US$421.12m, compared to 6.245Mt at US$342.95m in the same period of last year. This shows that exports fell by 0.39 per cent in terms of volume but were up by 22.79 per cent in terms of dollar value, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics. Cement dispatches from the Peruvian market reached 2,476,577t in the first quarter of 2013, representing a YoY rise of 10.8 per cent on the same period of last year (2,235,485t). Vietnam sold 9.48Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, down slightly from 9.57Mt in the same period of last year, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) said. The decline was attributed to a stagnant real estate market, according to the MoC. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has ordered 10Mt of cement to be imported into the kingdom to meet cement shortages and the construction of more cement plants over the medium-term is also being encouraged.
