The Eagle Materials Inc Board of Directors approved a plan in 2019 to separate its Heavy and Light Materials businesses into independent, publicly-traded companies by means of a tax-free spin-off to Eagle shareholders. US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers. The Portland Cement Association (PCA) has held a press conference at the 2020 World of Concrete in Las Vegas, Nevada, where PCA Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, Ed Sullivan, predicted cement consumption to stay at moderate growth levels through 2020-21 and into 2022. US-based Eagle Materials has reported a five per cent YoY increase in revenue to US$350.2m for the quarter ending 31 December 2019. National Cement Co of Alabama (Vicat group), has broken ground on its US$250m expansion of the plant in the Saint Clair County town of Ragland, USA. Egypt saw thermal coal imports rise by 31 per cent to 6.32Mt in 2019, according to official data from the port of Alexandria, driven by strong demand from the cement sector.
