Argentina's cement market expands 16% in February

Argentine cement consumption increased 15.6 per cent YoY in February 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Total volumes sold on the domestic market rose to 924,075t, up from 799,340t in February 2017 but down 11.5 per cent when compared with January 2018, when sales reached 1,043,732t. Holcim to import 423,500t of clinker into Argentina

Between May and December 2018 Holcim is expected to import 423,500t of clinker into Argentina, worth US$27.52m. The imports will arrive in 10 shipments of 42,350t each. In December 2017 the cement producer announced investments of US$120m to increase cement capacity at its Malagueno plant in Córdoba. The project includes the addition of a complete line with a clinker capacity of 0.512Mta and a cement capacity of 0.73Mta. Construction works are expected to start in 1H18.

Cementos Molins reports 40% YoY rise in net profit in 2017

Cementos Molins posted a net profit of EUR89.1m (US$109.4m) in 2017, which represents a YoY advance of 39.5 per cent. Consolidated turnover for the year increased 15 per cent YoY to EUR645.6m. The company’s revenues were supported by its international subsidiaries which expanded by 16 per cent, particularly its Argentine subsidiary, which saw its sales rise by 23 per cent. Argentina’s cement dispatches up 17% in January

Argentine cement producers dispatches 1,030,280t of cement, including exports, in January, up 3.2 per cent MoM and 17.3 per cent YoY, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. The domestic market (including imports) expanded by 3.9 per cent MoM and 19.4 per cent YoY as manufacturers delivered 1,043,651t.  Private consultants expect the market to continue its growth path in the next few years at an annual rate of seven per cent.

Itacamba expects to export 119,000t to Paraguay and Argentina

Bolivian cement producer Cemento Itacamba projects cement exports of 119,000t to Paraguay and Argentina this year. The company expects to deliver over 60,000t to Argentina as well as starting exports to Paraguay as part of its strategy to penetrate neighbouring markets. Uruguayan cement producers sold 203.100t of cement in 3Q17, representing a 3.4 per cent YoY. While 159,900t was sold in the domestic market, cement manufacturers shipped 43,600t for export. First cement shipment arrives at Barranqueras port

The first shipment of 3964t of cement was unloaded at the Argentine port of Barranqueras, Chaco region. The Bolivian cement was purchased by Cemento Avellaneda and will be distributed throughout the north of Argentina. Loma Negra to buy 15MW of renewable energy from Genneia

Argentina’s Loma Negra will purchase 15MW of power from renewable energy company Genneia. The power will be generated by Genneia’s Rawson wind farm in Chubut province. The Argentine cement market expanded 6.8 per cent YoY in December 2017 with demand at 1,004,332t, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2016 national demand stood at 940,055t. However, when compared with November 2017, the market contracted by 14.9 per cent.
