ACC to utilise wastes from Goa

The Goa government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ACC Cement to consume all its plastic and rubber waste, state environment minister Aleixo Sequeira said today. The minister said that all the village panchayats and municipal bodies will be asked to collect the plastic, rubber and thermacol and hand it over to a government appointed agency that would transport it to ACC’s operation in Kartanaka. Under the MoU, the contract will be in place for three years.

Lucky Cement celebrated World Environment Day on 4 June 2011, which it marked this year mainly by  changing its mode of transportation to cycling and walking instead of using vehicles. Dressed in yellow t-Shirts and maroon caps, around 75 people from the ’Lucky Family’ cycled and walked on the streets of Clifton town, demonstrating their commitment to a cleaner and greener Pakistan. Lehigh says it is cutting mercury emissions by 90%

The Lehigh Permanente cement plant announced Friday it is using new technology to substantially reduce its mercury emissions. The activated carbon injection system Lehigh Permanente installed in April and began using last month cuts emissions by 90 percent, plant manager Henrik Wesseling said during a news conference at the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino.
