Indonesia's cement and clinker exports have reached 3.62Mt in the January-August 2018 period an increase of 95.8 per cent YoY, reports Indonesian Investments. According to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), cement and clinker exports are now forecast to reach 5Mt by the end of 2018, which is massively up on the original target of 3Mt. PT Semen Indonesia reports its cement sales in August 2018 amounted to 20.67Mt, a rise of four per cent compared to 19.88Mt in August 2017. PT Lafarge Cement Indonesia, (LafargeHolcim) is likely to face a hefty environmental clear up bill after a barge spilt 700t of coal off the Sumatra coast, polluting beaches, damaging coral and impacting marine life. The incident occurred on July 30, when the barge, reportedly carrying coal to the Aceh cement factory,  was hit by high waves just 100m (330ft) off Lampuuk Beach in Aceh Besar district, on the northern tip of Sumatra.

Indonesia’s Environment and Forestry Ministry has asked four cement plants to burn untreated medical waste. Cement producers in Indonesia reported a 79.2 per cent rise in cement exports to 121,917t in April and clinker exports more than tripled to 471,410t from 156,225t in April 2017, according to the Indonesian Cement Association. Semen Indonesia's export sales more than doubled in April to 279,945t from 118,401t in April 2017. Meanwhile, the company’s domestic cement sales remained largely stable in April at 2,116,468t.
