Cement demand in Indonesia in October 2017 and the first 10 months of 2017 has shown sustained robust growth. The Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) and PT Semen Indonesia expect this trend to continue for a further one or two months before the start of the rainy season. For the first nine months of 2017, cement consumption in Indonesia rose 6.6 per cent to 47.432Mt from 45.504Mt, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). The data reflects sales by ASI members only. Semen Indonesia consolidated sales increased by 6.3 per cent YoY to 2,639,187t in September 2017. Volumes were primarily destined for the domestic market, which received 2,513,297t, an increase of 3.7 per cent when compared with the year-ago period. The Semen Baturaja II plant of Baturaja Cement Corp will start commercial operations this September after undergoing two months of trials. According to Baturaja Cement's General Director, Rahmad Pribadi, the schedule for operations was moved ahead by a month, from 1 October. Cement consumption in Indonesia advanced by 56 per cent YoY in July 2017, rising from 3.8Mt to 5.9Mt, according to figures from the Indonesian Cement Association.
