At present, the works still require licences and approval from local communities around the project sites. PT Semen Indonesia has reduced its 2014 sales growth target from 5-6 per cent to 4-5 per cent due to a slowdown in cement sector, its corporate secretary, Agung Wiharto, said. PT Semen Indonesia will soon acquire 500ha of land in West Papua for the construction of a cement plant at a cost of around US$150m. Semen Indonesia corporate secretary Agung Wiharto told the Jakarta Post that the firm would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) later this year to procure the land for the first cement factory in the province. Indonesian cement demand in the first nine months of 2014 rose by 3.4 per cent YoY to 42.993Mt, latest data from the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI) reveals. PT Semen Tonasa plans to develop a new factory in Papua with a total investment of up to IDR3trn (US$247.08m), to cut distribution costs, according to its CEO, Unggul Atas. Sales in the eastern provinces of Papua and Maluku until August reached 787,408t, down 1.5 per cent from a year earlier.
