Total shipments for Portland and blended cement, including imports in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 16 per cent YoY to 9Mt in March 2021, reports the US Geological Survey (USGS). Nigeria’s Dangote Group has not increased the price of its cement products, despite the naira devaluation by the Central Bank of Nigeria, according to The Punch. Cement consumption in France fell 7.5 per cent to an estimated 17.891Mt in 2020 with demand in 2021 forecast at 19.039Mt, up 6.5 per cent YoY, according to CIC Market Solutions. Cambodia saw the value of its cement imports fall 48.6 per cent YoY to US$66.25m in 2020, compared to US$128.86m in the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi   inaugurated the 2Mta Dugongo Cement plant, in the southernmost district of Matutuine, on Wednesday. The US$330m   investment by the Chinese West International Holding sees the creation of a greenfield plant on 400,000ha, including a quarry and residential complex for some of the 300 permanent staff. Cement exports from Senegal drop 35% in February

Exports of cement from Senegal declined 35.3 per cent MoM in February 2021, according to the country’s national statistics agency, ANSD. When compared with February 2020, exports decreased 32.4 per cent. Domestic sales fell by eight per cent MoM in February 2021 while output from Senegalese cement plants was down by 6.5 per cent in the same period. When compared with the equivalent month of 2020, sales and output improved by 12.5 and 3.1 per cent, respectively.

Puerto Rican cement sales declined 13.2 per cent MoM to 1.37m bags, or 58,414t, in April 2021, according to the country’s statistics institute. In April 2020, 451,000 bags, or 19,230t, were sold following going into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic cement production fell in April 2021 to 635,000 bags, or 27,075t, after reaching 771,000 bags, or 32,874t, in the previous month.
