Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped two per cent YoY to 6.7Mt in January 2021, said the US Geological Survey (USGS). Egypt's cement industry recorded strong sales in March with total sales reaching 4.99Mt, up 22 per cent MoM and 15 per cent YoY. The industry’s utilisation rate also surged to 74 per cent from 60 per cent in February. The average utilisation rate in 2020 was 59 per cent. Brazilian cement consumption up 34% YoY in March

Brazil's cement market expanded 34.2 per cent to 5.48Mt in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Market growth was the strongest in the south, where sales increased 45.3 per cent YoY from 682,000t to 991,000t in March 2021, followed by sales in the northeast, which expanded by 43.6 per cent to 1,127,000t from 785,000t. Moroccan market expands 40% in March

Cement deliveries in Morocco jumped 40.2 per cent to 1,277,221t in March 2021 when compared with March 2020 when 910,994t was supplied to the domestic market, according to the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the January-March 2021 period, deliveries were up 3.9 per cent YoY to 3.394Mt from 3.267Mt in the 3Q20. These data reflect deliveries by APC members Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc.

Cement deliveries in Uruguay saw a 33.8 per cent YoY advance in March 2021 to 71,027t from 53,083t in March 2020. Cement sales in Puerto Rico advanced 26.2 per cent in February, according the Puerto Rican statistics agency. In February 1.36m bags of 94lb, or 57,987t were sold. Sacko Holding SA, a private Mali-based company, has finalised the funding of a US$300m cement plant in Bema, 30km from Diéma on the Noro du Sahel road, Mali. Cement demand in Argentina surged by 94 per cent YoY to 974,391t in March 2021 from a low base of 502,368t in March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement consumption in Bolivia saw a 24.1 per cent drop to 230,317t in January 2021 from 303,619t in January 2020, according to Bolivia’s national statistics institute, INE. A MoM fall of 29.8 per cent was noted when compared with a demand of 328,064t in December 2020. Bolivian cement production declined 38.9 per cent from 392,217 in January 2020 to 239,663t in January 2021. When compared with December 2020, a 25.8 per cent drop from 322,876t was reported.
