Chile’s cement market expands 32% in April

Cement dispatches in Chile saw a 31.5 per cent hike to 352,817t in April 2021 when compared with 268,319t in April 2020, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction, CChC. When compared with March 2021 they declined by 8.4 per cent. In the January-April 2021 period total dispatches increased 12.6 per cent to 1,436,291t from the 4M20, when deliveries were at 1,276,105t.

UK builders merchant announces cement shortages

Travis Perkins is warning that around 40 per cent of its branch network does not have enough cement to supply UK customers. Travis Perkins Chief Operating Officer, Frank Elkins, predicted that cement shortages were unlikely to ease before the end of the year.  Lead times on bagged cement have extended from around two days to two weeks, and Travis Perkins was now looking at supply chains across Europe to source cement. Argentina's cement market expands 35% YoY in May

Cement consumption in Argentina declined 7.8 per cent MoM to 874,187t in May 2021 but surged 34.8 per cent YoY from 648,543t in May 2020, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Market demand was entirely supplied by domestic cement plants, which produced 884,204t of cement in May 2021. Sales of cementitious products in South Africa edged up 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2020 to 3,457,438t when compared with 3,447,822t in the 3Q19, according to Levitt Kirson Business Services Pty Ltd. This followed a 42.5 per cent YoY drop in the 2Q20, when dispatches declined to 1,877,298t from 3,264,718t in the 2Q19. All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has reported considerable growth in domestic and export cement dispatches for May 2021 and the 11MFY21. It registered an increase of 49.9 per cent in May 2021, when total cement/clinker dispatches were 3.947Mt against 2.634Mt in the same month of last fiscal year. Cement prices in El Salvador increase in May

The price of a 42.5kg bag of cement in El Salvador, delivered ex-works increased by four per cent to US$7.87 in May 2021 when compared with May 2020, when the ex-work price stood at US$7.57/bag – a price level it held until April 2021. At retail level, prices rose 1.5 per cent YoY from US$8.53 per 42.5kg bag in May 2020 to US$8.66/bag in May 2021. Since the start of 2021 retail prices have steadily risen from US$8.36/bag in January to US$8.40 in April 2021.

Uzbekistan cement imports surge in 4M21

Uzbekistan imported 1Mt of cement worth US$50.5m in the January-April 2021 period, more than doubling the year-ago volume of 515,100t, according to Trend reporting the latest data from the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. Colombia’s grey cement market expanded by 333.5 per cent in April 2021 as demand reached 1.051Mt, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE. In April 2020 consumption fell to 242,400t as demand contracted sharply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kazakhstan has seen a rise in cement prices on the back of an improvement in the country’s housing construction market. "In general, manufacturers' prices are kept at KZT20-22,000 (US$46.69), the growth is about five per cent. Cement consumption in Bolivia reached 290,525t in March 2021, up 50.8 per cent when compared with 192,670t in March 2020, according the country’s national statistics office, INE. Output from Bolivia’s cement plants increased 38.1 per cent from 215,629t in March 2020 to 297,744t in March 2021.
