Vietnam output at 11.3Mt

Vietnam producers are estimated to have produced 11.3Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, representing 22.2 per cent of the full-year target. The country consumed 10.27Mt of cement during the quarter, equaling 20.5 per cent of its full year target, the Ministry of Construction said, Cement output in March will be 4.09Mt and 3.93Mt, respectively, the Ministry said. It also added that cement prices nationwide remain stable.

The Rajawali Group of Indonesia plans to sell a 17.4 per cent stake in the country’s leading producer PT Semen Gresik for around US$800m, Reuters reported. Blue Valley Holdings, which is a unit of investment firm Rajawali, is selling 1.03bn shares at IDR7000 (US$0.77), according to a term sheet seen by Reuters, which is at a six per cent discount to the last traded price. KHD Humboldt Wedag International Ltd said Tuesday it has made the first step in restructuring the company into two distinct entities. India: Madras Cement to increase capacity

Madras Cements Ltd is planning to increase capacity of its Ariyalur plant in Tamil Nadu. The company has also proposed to set up a 65MW coal-based power plant for captive purpose. HeidelbergCement Ukraine has suspended the transfer of Amvrosiivka-based DonCement usage of gas for coal from January-March to May, sales director Petro Hryhorchuk told the Ukrainian News agency. "We will transfer DonCement as we planned, but in May. As soon as in May there will be the first batch of the commodity on the new energy carrier," he said.

Cementos Argos seeks Panama Canal contract

Cementos Argos of Colombia is to participate in a tender for the provision of 1.5Mt (50 per cent) of the cement required in the expansion of the Panama Canal. The contract is worth US$90m, according to Jose Alberto Velez Cadavid, president of Inversiones Argos (Inverargos), the owner of Cementos Argos.
