Cement sales in Saudi Arabia are likely to rise 19 per cent in 2010 but prices are expected to drop, dragging profit margins down as new entrants, combined with a partial export ban, increase market saturation, NCB Capital said. Ukrtsement Association forecasts a fall in cement output by 25.78% or 2.431Mt to 7Mt in 2010 compared with 2009, the Association announced. Taking into account the January-February slump in production, cement plants will be able to reach 7Mt by the end of the current year, the statement said. Ukraine produced 347,500t of cement in January-February, or half as much versus last year’s figures.

Cemex places convertible notes

Cemex said Tuesday it has placed US$715m in five-year convertible notes, including all US$65m of an overallotment offered to initial buyers, The company said it will use the proceeds from the placement to pay down debt and for general corporate purposes. The subordinate convertible notes pay annual interest of 4.875 per cent.
