Shree Cement Jan shipments up 18 per cent YoY

Shree Cement said on Monday its January shipments rose 18 per cent to 882,000t, up from 749,000t a year earlier. Total shipments during April-January period rose 24 per cent to 7.65Mt, up from 6.18Mt a year ago, it said in an e-mailed statement. The company has a capacity to produce 9.5Mt of cement annually at its plant in the north western state of Rajasthan.

Binani Cement has put its Dubai expansion plans on hold due to sharp drop in cement demand in the debt-laden country. Dalmia Cement (Bharat) announced that the net profit for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009 fell to Rs.22.60 crore from Rs.23.71 crore in the same quarter last year. Total income increased to Rs.528.90 crore from Rs.406.02 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company declared an interim dividend of 50% or Re.1.00 per share for the fiscal 2010.

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem)’s cement and clinker sales rose 7.88% from a year earlier to 17.35Mt in 2009, the corporation said on its website. Of the sum, 17.13Mt were cement, up 14.6% YoY and 223,000t were clinker, down 80.49%, Vicem said. The corporation produced 9.58Mt of clinker and 16.86Mt of cement last year, down 5.59% and up 12.32% on-year, respectively. Madras Cements Ltd said Thursday its third-quarter net profit fell nearly 75% from a year earlier as costs rose and income dropped. Net profit for the quarter ended Dec. 31 fell to INR160.1m from INR627.3m a year earlier, the Chennai-based cement maker said in a statement.
