The prices of bagged and bulked cement has decreased to $233.91/t and $212.65 per tonne, respectively, effective yesterday. The Commerce Commission confirmed the new price determination that showed a decrease of $21.73/t for bagged cement and $19.75 for bulk cement. India January cement sales: double digit growth

Indian cement makers today reported double-digit growth in January sales driven by increased demand from housing sector, especially of low-cost homes, and infrastructure. Camargo places offer for the stake of Lafarge in Cimpor

Camargo Correa has delivered to Lafarge its proposal to purchase a 17% stake on Cimpor for which it would pay cash, reports  Brazil Economico. Figures were not disclosed and the move is seen as the base for a strategy to close in on the Portuguese cement major. The paper reported that Camargo could stay as the second largest shareholder in Cimpor, wait for the outcome of CSN’s offer for the assets; then launch a competing offer for Cimpor.

Egypt’s Asec Cement to double production

Egyptian cement maker, Asec Cement has announced plans to more than double its production by 2013, Reuters has reported. Asec, a subsidiary of Cairo-based Citadel Capital, hopes to achieve its goals by building several plants and acquiring a number of companies in the region, Giorgio Bodo, chief executive officer and chairman, told the news service. The company has stakes in cement plants in Algeria, Sudan, Syria, Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and Ethiopia.

US construction spending falls

Vicat’s cement sales ahead, the rest in decline

Vicat saw turnover decline by 7.8% in 2009 to €1,896.0m, which represents an underlying reduction of 9.1%.  Turnover in cement improved by 2.3% to €950.3m, but aggregates and concrete showed a 17.7% reduction to €695.5m, and other activities registered an 11.7% decline to €250.2m.  Cement accounted for 52.1% of the turnover, compared with 45.1% in the previous year, while the concrete and aggregates share fell from 41.1% to 33.4%.  Group cement deliveries did improve by 2.0% to 14.51Mt, whil...

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) on Friday announced a 4% fall in quarterly net profit due to higher expenditure on raw materials and increased freight costs. Net profit declined to Rs 23 crore in the December quarter from Rs 22 crore in the year-ago period. Its consumption of raw materials during the period increased 61% to Rs 212 crore, while expenses on freight went up 85% to Rs 52 crore, offsetting a 28% growth in net sales at Rs 518 crore.
