The Quinn Group plans to create 800 jobs over the next three years with the majority at its manufacturing centre at Derrylin in Fermanagh. The new posts were indicated by Chief Executive Liam McCaffrey in an interview with the Irish Times. Cimpor confirms rejection of Ecuador bid

The offer of Portuguese cement group Cimpor for Ecuadorian sector firm Cemento Chimborazo has been rejected, Cimpor informed Portugal’s national bourse regulator CMVM on Sunday. The rejection came from Ecuadorian bank Banco Nacional de Fomento – the majority shareholder in Cemento Chimborazo. The price of the offer was probably the reason for the rejection. Shiva Cement to expand production capacity

Shiva Cement today announced that it would be going ahead with an interim capacity expansion proposal of up to 0.66Mta for an estimated project cost of INR 1.64bn, to be funded by mix of debt and equity. It further announced that the mega expansion upto 2.3 mn tpa capacity as approved by Orissa government shall be taken up only after sanction of additional mines. In the mean time, the company may continue its efforts for land acquisition for the same.

BCC to operate new cement line in 2010, Vietnam

Bim Son Cement JSC (BCC) is planning to operate a new cement production line costing VND4.085trn (US$228.6m) in early next year. The production line will have a designed capacity of 2Mta of cement, the company said on its website. The new line will help double the company’s cement production capacity to 4Mta to become the biggest cement maker of Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem).

Lafarge Seattle to shut down for more than 30 days

Lafarge’s Seattle plant will be shut down for approximately 32 days "due to full inventory" according to Plant Manager Richard Sebastianelli. A letter has been sent from Sebastianelli advising Community Liason members. During the shutdown maintenance will be performed and none of the 73 employees jobs will be affected. "This is a normally planned shutdown due to full inventory," according to Sebastianelli.

Cement Australia has launched a new 140tph cement mill at its Gladstone facility. The new mill, the construction of which began in 2007, will double the facility’s existing capacity ensuring security of supply of high quality, locally-manufactured cement to supply central and northern Queensland.
