Lafarge project may start in 2014, US

July regional sales were up on June, however compared to the same period last year, sales were down 11.5%. The week long construction strike affected cement sales to most major projects.  Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal and Botswana continue to show positive demand, whilst urban markets such as Gauteng and Western Cape continue their year on year decline.

Cemex refinances debt for US$15bn

Cemex announced Friday that it has refinanced US$15bn of its debt consolidated with 75 international banks. Ste. Genevieve County plant opent

Holcim opened the nation’s largest cement plant on Monday in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo. The US$1bn plant resulted in more than 2,500 construction jobs and currently employs 250 people. The plant is located 55 miles south of St. Louis along the Mississippi River. The plant is among the world’s largest with the ability to produce more than 12,000tpd of clinker and 4Mta of cement each year.

Binani to cut product prices in Western India

India’s Binani Cement Ltd is planning to soon cut cement prices in western India by INR2 to INR3 per 50kg/bag, the company’s managing director said Friday. "We are going to take a decision on cutting prices in Maharashtra and adjoining areas in a couple of days," Vinod Juneja told Dow Jones Newswires over the phone. Power cuts affect Semen Padang plant, Indonesia

The power cuts imposed on West Sumatra since May 2009 has caused a great deal of loss to Indonesian state cement maker PT Semen Padang (PT SP), the biggest cement plant in Sumatra, corporate secretary Benny Wendri said Thursday. Turkey’s Akcansa 1H net profit down

Turkish cement company AkcansaCement posted a 42% on-year fall in first-half consolidated net profit, the Istanbul Stock Exchange website showed late Wednesday. Net profit totaled TRY40.71m (US$27.5m) in the first half, from TRY70.186m in the first half of 2008. No reason for the decline in net profit was given but according to the website the company’s income from sales fell to TRY336.4m in the first half from TRY405.3 a year earlier. EBRD to loan Lafarge Vostok up to EUR120m

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) could loan Lafarge Vostok, up to EUR120m for direct investment in Russia, the bank said in a statement.   The loan is a follow-up transaction under an earlier approved multi-project facility with Lafarge for EUR300m covering the acquisition, modernisation, expansion, construction and operation of manufacturing facilities in the cement, lime, aggregates and ready-mix concrete sectors, the statement says.   "The project objective is t...
